Wine experts say this White wine presents a classic opening salve for this Central Coast vineyard, and one that deserves more attention than the vineyard might have reasonably allowed for the grilled, charred vineyard floor to appear on the bouquet. Finishing with subtle apple, spice and mineral, it goes more for the modern style in style rather than tradition. Sourced from a single vineyard on Oliver`s North Bench, this was fermented and aged in one-quarter new French oak barrels. The time in oak has somewhat muted the snappy vitality of the fruit (some tasters might argue it has simply rounded it off). Grassy hints of fresh asparagus remain, and with peppery herb, juicy gooseberry and citrus peel. Light in color and body, this is a lovely example of Chenin, loaded with dried herb and wild strawberry that finishes long, with some tannic grip. The acidity is bracing.
