Wine experts say this White wine presents a classic opening dance. The lush aromas of melon, apricot, spice and pungent green herbs are joined by pomegranate and hibiscus flavors. The mouthfeel is streamlined and the complexity is undreamed-for in California. Alconte is the new second wine from Montecastro, but it doesn`t take a back seat to anything. It`s extraordinarily rich and ripe in cherries, blackberries, currants, anise and cedar, with wonderfully thick, refined tannins. The winemaker, Drake Whitcraft, has kept the alcohol relatively low, at just 12.5%. Pure Syrah. The bouquet is briary, with aromas of baked fruit, wet dog and even anise. Pepper and leather flavors show a little more interest on the finish. Still, racy acidity and wiry raspberry and raspberry-skin flavors show the wine`s fairly aggressive alcohol.
